No. I tried xfce and kde / and kdm and xdm

I had never used xfce

Just did. sameo, sameo
Then removed (mv) ~/.kde but X still hangs after I hit the <enter> key
after name/password on login screen. I tried 4 different previously
unused window managers with same result.
The <test-user> I created can login (after init 5) to kde, gnome, and
xfce and out and in w/o a problem.
