I had the same problem.... Sony Vaio 505 series.
I use Xmms...
CD audio Player 1.2.10 [libcaudio.so]
And change the Directory to
/media/cdrom .......... instead of whatever it defaulted to.
device should still be /dev/cdrom..so leave that.
I also use OSS Driver 1.2.10 [libOSS.so]

Hit me back if you have any more problems... it has been a while since I set
it up, but I can look at my notes or something. but I think this was all I
did.
