I don't know if you are having the same problem as I did, but when I first installed 9.1, I couldn't access my cdrecorder or dvdrecorder. I used the fixes at http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2002/10/81_ide-scsi.html and http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2002/05/dstark_combilw.html and now both work fine. Whrn running lsmod, before ide-scsi was not loaded, after that fix, the drives appeared, but I couldn't mount them. The second fix took care of that. Don't know if that will help you. -----Original Message----- From: Chris Freyer [mailto:Chris@TheFreyers.net] Sent: Monday, June 07, 2004 3:40 PM To: suse-linux-e@suse.com Subject: [SLE] Problems after upgrade to 9.1 Hello all. I'm having several problems after upgrading from SuSE 9.0 to 9.1. Can anyone point me in the right direction with these issues? 1. The following error message appears when opening many applications. "kdecore (KIconLoader): WARNING: Icon directory /opt/kde3/share/icons/slick/ group not valid.". I've checked the user/group/permissions of this directory and its the same as the other files/directories under /opt/kde3/share/icons. 2. CDRom access. My cdrom drive became unusable after I upgraded to 9.1. My /dev/cdrom and /dev/cdrecorder entries were missing. I fixed the problem by creating hard links to /dev/hdc (my IDE CDR), but I'm having problems with this. Can someone post a working /etc/fstab, and the output of ls -l /dev/cdr* from a 9.1 install (not an upgrade)? 3. Keyboard bounce. Sometimes my keyboard goes crazy after I do an ifdown/ifup to eth0. Not sure if I have a problem with DHCP or the network device itself. Any tips on what causes this? 4. Long delay during "coldplug" initialization. Since I have a laptop (where the hardware won't change), do I need to have this service enabled? 5. Many "rpmnew" files found at boot-up. Most of these files I've never changed. Should I overwrite the old, or delete the .rpmnew file?
