Marcus, here is some update on my sound saga for you: Reading trough the kernel sound documentation, I've come across the support option for DXS channels. The default value by YaST is 0, which seems not to be supported by the via chip. After changing the settings to 1, I've definitely got some improvements. - now the volume test in YaST works. - dito the sound test within KDE-Control-Center - even playing sound files with XMMS works. - but no sound during KDE start-up - no sound from KsCD, while the CD control works fine - but interestingly, Xine can play the CD with sound So I assume, there are still some configuration changes necessary within KDE? Do you have any further suggestions? TIA, Rainer On Thursday 03 June 2004 19:02, you wrote:

Marcus,
Noop! Unfortunately, that doesn't help. - Running the SuSE Live-CD I encountered the same problem.
I've studied the ALSA documentation and the kernel source documentation. But I have to pass. I don't know how I could check the different modules.
The error is however that the kernel version that is running (check with uname -r) is not the one for which modules are installed (2.6.4-54.5).
Check your bootloader setup please.
