Not sure how much interest there is in all this, but.. I have managed to get SuSE 9.1 running under VMware on my emachines 6807.. 64 bit AMD. Now there are the some issues. The 64 bit version does not like to load - but that seems somewhat obvious at first thought -- VMware is running a 32 bit emulater... But what is funny is that the installer tells me that I am about to install a 32 bit OS on a 64 bit machine. Go figure. I guess it detects the processor correctly, but no matter what I have tried, I can't get it to run. I now have dual monitors with the laptop so I can have the VMware/SuSE combo on my 1024x768 display and on the laptop I can have the silly windoze stuff. As soon as I send this email, I am going to reboot to my native SuSE 64 bit install and use the Linux version of VMware to see if I can get the windoze OS installed and working. The power of this little laptop is wonderful! FYI -- we use SuSE with Snort and Snort-INLINE to do IDS and IPS with bridging. This now gives me a way to do lots of different testing with the new 9.1 before we upgrade all the 9.0 installs. I have had 9.0 with 2.6 kernel running for over a month with Snort 2.1.2 but had strange problems with ntop v3 and since SuSE 9.1 has ntop v3 native, it just made sense to upgrade. We only have about 15 sensors (5 of them inline) to upgrade - wish me luck... Kat
