Sorry, it didn't work!
At first I thought it was doubtful that running a graphical application was possible if the monitor X configuration was set too high. Even with right monitor settings on beforehand, this happended following the suggested steps:
1. ctrl-alt-f1 to make a command line login
2. # init 3 to go to run level 3
3. # sax2 sax2 started up, but run the monitor "Out of range": H.Frequency: 91 kHz 90 kHz V.Frequency: 85 kHz 84,5 kHz
Try "sax2 -l" the -l will make it start in a generic, low resolution that should work on most monitors/cards
