Did you change the runlevel in inittab from 3 to 4?
I'd changed the runlevel to 4 and I can access gnome and kde now. Thanks
You can install the slackware lilo on slack partition not on MBR. To do so, modify the line "boot" of the global section of slack lilo.conf from boot = /dev/hdx to boot = /dev/hdxy (where x is the device and y the partition in which you installed slack). Then lilo -v (in slack).
As I said SuSE is on /dev/hda6 while Slackware is on /dev/hda10. In lilo.conf (slackware), my line "boot" was modified from: boot=/dev/fd0 ...to: boot=/dev/hda10 ...and I used the command $lilo -v (in Slackware) and $lilo -v (in SuSE). I posted lilo.con from both distro at the end of this e-mail.
Then you can start it simply adding "other" and "label" into SuSE lilo.conf file (other = /dev/hdxy label = Slackware)
Then lilo -v (in SuSE)
The inittab file determines, among the others, the runlevel you want the system starts from. Runlevel 3: console mode - runlevel 4: graphical mode. It is run after the boot fase. But, even if you start from runlevel 3 you can activate the graphical mode typing "startx".
see above :)
I'm trying to keep the SuSE interface for lilo: I'd included "slackware" in the menu (vmlinuz, label and root) but the option doesn't work.
See above.
Summarizing:
! - configure the Slack X server using cf86config (from slack console)
xf86 config made the job.
2 - install the Slack lilo on Slackware partition
see my lilo.conf (Slack) bellow.
3 - modify the SuSE lilo.
idem.
If all went well you'll be able to start Slack from SuSE lilo. If it is so, likely your Slack will be on console mode. Type startx to start graqphical mode. But, above all. read the Slackware handbook.
I read chapter 7 "booting" and chapter 6 "the X window system" from the book "Slackware linux essentials" and also googling but you've been of great help to me. Thank you again for your kindness.
P.S. Let me know your results! ;-)
