I've had a string of bad system boots since starting the postfix/cyrus/fetchmail install process. At first I thought I was screwing up files in /etc, as when I restored the original copies of recently changed files (yes, I made a backup), the system would come up fine. This happened with each of the new services. Last time the only change I made was to use YaST2's runlevel editor to start fetchmail at boot. The system booted badly again. By booting badly, I mean lots of processes won't run; I end up with a terminal login; lots of programs won't run, for example: ps segfaults. Not believing a config file was screwed up this time I tried an experiment. I copied a file in /etc to filename.bak. Then I rebooted. This time the system came up fine. It seems to happen whenever I run the runlevel editor. Any ideas? Is this some kind of bug? Oh, and I'm running YaST2 from a different machine on the network. I tried including my boot.msg file, but it bounced because of size.
