Yes, that is the behavior I want, but I don't use X. I'm just running from
the terminal and in that case, the home and end keys in 8.2 or 9.0 DON'T
work as you describe. I need to get bash to work like you describe, but work
that way from runlevel 3 and for ssh connections. My confusion is trying to
figure out which, of the mired of bash config files, is the right bash
config file to modify to produce the desired behavior from bash. Any
thoughts??
