Perhaps the driver does not match-up with the kernel(s) you are using?
I have a winmodem (which has a Conexant/Rockwell chipset) and I have to get a new working driver everytime there is an update to the Suse kernel, or if there is a delay in Linuxant releasing a new driver I then use the generic driver they have and compile the working driver myself. For example, on my test computer I am using kernel 2.6.5 for which there is no driver so I had to compile it myself.
Maybe you could be in a similar situation?
Cheers.

Greetings to you all...
I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 on which I have a winmodem pctel230wt.
I made it work under 8.2 using pctel-0.9.7-6 drivers...
Since 9.0, I saw that it was detected, but I couldn't make it work...
Now on 9.1 beta4 is detected again, I have the slamr and snd-intel8x0m modules marked for it and I loaded them...
However, wvdialconf complains it cannot find any modem.
I tried /dev/ttySL0 as device... also tried /dev/ttyS0,1,2,3,4 and /dev/slamr0,1,2,3... Still it doesn't work....
Any of you have any similar experiences and can give some ideas how to make this work?
Thank you in advance for your help...
