Hi,
I am finally getting around to upgrading my 8.2 box to 9.0. When I do, I run into about 7 dependency conflicts...such as:
Gal_0.24-69 is required by gnucash and gtkhtml, but guppi requires libgal.so.21
guppi isn't a separate package in 9.0, I suspect it's the 8.2 version hanging around
Openssl is the most disturbing, where libsasl2 is required from a pervious version (according to YaST).
Look at openssl in the package list and make sure it isn't marked with a padlock (yast's way of saying it won't be upgraded). Try setting it as 'not locked' (right-click and set for upgrade)
2 (potentially stupid) questions:
1- is YaST checking the dependencies against the new packages to be installed (I selected the option to upgrade existing packages)? I assume the answer is yes otherwise there would be more problems.
sort of. In an upgrade there are potentially loads of packages marked as locked, so they won't be upgraded, causing lots of old packages to be around after the upgrade. I usually run through these and set them all for upgrade
2- Is it safe to ignore these?
Usually not
Re-installing from scratch is a pain on this device.
That's the best euphemism I've seen :)
