My current computer equipment is mostly Dell --1 Dell pc running Windows, 1
Dell pc running Linux, 1 Dell monitor. The Dell monitor I currently have
(P793) is not supported by my SuSE Linux 8.1 operating system (Dell supplies
the driver as a type of executable that is only recognizable on a Windows
machine). I have had to work around this on my Linux machine by selecting
another Dell monitor from its monitor list and manually overriding certain
settings. I picked values within the ranges specified by the booklet I got
with the monitor, but I am now getting some high pitched tones coming out of
it and it may go out on me. Before that happens and I'm left with no
system, I'd like to ahead and get a new monitor (a nice flat screen monitor,
what the heck). I'd like to buy something that my SuSE 8.1 operating system
will support right out of the box. Anyone have any suggestions on a good
brand? I believe IBM was/is working with SuSE, so maybe they have monitors
that I could use on either of my two machines. I might check with them.
Any other suggestions of companies that make nice flat screen monitors that
will work on both a Windows XP machine and a SuSE 8.1 machine?
Thanks,
Greg Wallace
