My system (SuSE 9.1) frooze after trying to play a real audio stream (BBC radio) in my browser (epiphany). Not a "blue screen of death" but the same effect.
Real Player is buggy. Try using xine instead. It can handle the codecs and works overall a lot better in my experience. mplayer is another good alternative
After restart, fsck failed and I had to repair via the option --rebuild-tree, losing some directories and files. I will gradually discover what does not work, I can again do basic things - but I have one problem found already: when minimising a programme window, the minimised window is not visible on the panel at the bottom of the page (I am using ULB Gnome) but seems to minimise somewhere "off the screen".
Has somebody a suggestion?
Could it be that the taskbar has gone away? Right-click on the panel and select Add->applet->taskbar
