Connection problems: You probably should also check 'pppd' to see that suid bit is set. One can add that to 'permissions.local' to set the permissions. The pppd file has the habit of changing back to non-suid. Until you get the permissions set you'll affect Kmail's ability to d/l e-mail, and it seems to me that you are not connecting properly if you get the msgs you specified.
Sorry 'bout the 'pppd' oversight.
Looked into the wvdial.conf after it was changed by wvdialconf I compared them with what should be set according to the man wvdial.conf According to the man pages e.g. stupid mode should be disabled by default. My config file did have it enabled. By default redialing after disconnect should be enabled. In my case after the command wvdial it states that reconnecting is disabled. Looked in the wvdial.conf and did not find anything that pointed to the reconnect.
So there is a discrepancy between what is described in the man pages and the wvdial.conf I have got during instalation. My original config file looks like this:
[Dialer Defaults] Modem = /dev/modem Baud = 115200 Init1 = ATZ Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 Init3 = Area Code = Phone = 7517100 Username =abc Password =xyz Ask Password = 0 Dial Command = ATDT Stupid Mode = 1 Compuserve = 0 Force Address = Idle Seconds = 9[M V+0 DialMessage1 = DialMessage2 = ISDN = 0 Auto DNS = 1 Modem Name = Modem Type = Analog Modem
How should it look like?
[Dialer Defaults] Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0 Baud = 115200 Init1 = AT E1 Q0 V1 X1 &D2 &L0 &Q0 &R0 &S0 Init2 = AT S54=12 S53=3 S27=1 S118=8 S129=0 S6=0 S13=1 Init3 = Area Code = Phone = 9698892 Username =xxx Password =yyy Ask Password = 0 Dial Command = ATDT Stupid Mode = 1 Compuserve = 0 Force Address = Idle Seconds = 0 DialMessage1 = DialMessage2 = ISDN = 1 Auto DNS = 1 Modem type can be deleted, I think, as my example config file never had it before I added my parameters. - -- ...CH Avoid doing business with 'The Link' ISP.
