Hi,
Just picked up a PS/2 Mecer scroll wheel mouse and have it working on SuSE 9 BUT.....
When I move the scroll wheel one division the text moves a space of 5 lines.
I have had a look via Yast but it only seems to allow me to specify the mouse model not specify the scroll wheel settings. Where else can I look or which file to edit?
TIA
Hi Hylton,
I'm on 8.2 Pro + KDE 3.2. Under KDE Control Center/Peripherals/Mouse/Advanced there's a "Mouse wheel scrolls by: __" entry... mine is set at 3 lines. I can't remember if this new as compared to KDE 3.1 but it's worth a shot.
Hi Carl,
You were right on the money in terms of where to find the scroll wheel distance locater BUT after I changed mine from 3 to 1, the mouse wheel worked perfectly on a text file in KWrite but it still moved text in Mozilla Mail and Navigator 3-4 lines at a time. I knew I had seen it somewhere. Hopefully newer releases of SuSE will include the Control centre functionality in the Yast (Your ??? System Tool?)
This is certainly a bit of a train smash, as it prevents me from using it in an internet capacity, which is where I wanted to use it. Looks like I am going to have to forget about using the scroll wheel for the reason I got it, unless of course you or someone else has an idea, like perhaps changing the config file line count from 5 to 1, just in case the hardware control centre didn't do it properly?
In Mozilla you set the scroll wheel in the Preferences. This feature has been in since time immemorial. In Firefox you need to install tge SuperScroll extension.
I can say that it is a Mecer branded mouse model M380, which is not listed in Yast so I chose what I thought would be the closest. I'll be phoning the dealers on Tuesday to find out if perhaps it is just a M$ Intellimouse branded under their name.
All the post changing testing was done pre and post-reboot, but I do not think it matters in linux, perhaps I am wrong though.
