Hi Folks,
I am back on SuSE again for my laptop Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M, ATI MOBILITY RADEON 4X AGP, 64 MB DDR (shared). (my desktop will remain Slackware). It seems SuSE works best here. Note: Mandrake 10 made my laptop run at some kind of full-throttle: sounded like a steel workers machine (amusing, but dangerous I think). Got acpi after follwing instructions from klaptop and added some monitoring to kernel.
I believe YaST can do the upgrade, but here, I downloaded KDE-3.2.1 into an empty directory, logout from KDE, init 3 in a VT and "rpm -Uvh --nodeps --force *.rpm", init 5, it seems rpm now is able to install them in the correct order. This worked both on my Athlon XP2200+ desktop and the 64-bit version on my Acer 1501LCe laptop, Mobility Radeon 9600 M10 64MB.
Question: how can I best update to latest KDE. In slack I have swaret (its very simple). Also would like to get DVD to work. It would not accept the install DVD of Pro 9.
Thanks

I had the same problem on my laptop, it was loading the ide-scsi module which prevented me from mounting the CD-RW/DVD drive as /media/dvd. Remove ide-scsi from /etc/sysconfig/kernel, "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT="cdrom ide-cd ide-scsi" line. Regards Sid.
