Toshiba Satellite P15-S409 Laptop, dual boot, XP and SuSe 9.0. Purchased about 6 months ago, works well until this morning. On power-up (AC) the machine failed to successfully go into Level 5, and reverted to Level 3 (Command line). Boot messages show: starting cpufreqd (skipped) and later,: skipped services in Run Level 5: cpufreqd just prior to awaiting my login Tail of /var/log/messages shows: kdm[1943]: IO Error in XOpenDisplay kdm[1894]: Server for Display :0 terminated unexpectedly right after modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-195 If i execute /etc/init.d/cpufreqd start, then the error in /var/log/messages is: CPU frequency scaling is not supported with the current settings! Is this machine speedstep or powernow technology? Please have a look in /etc/sysconfig/powermanagement. In looking there, I see a list of modules which it checks; I don't seem to have any shown (using modprobe or lsmod), which is why it's failing with my call on cpufreqd. The machine has worked well (booted every morning) prior to this, and I have not meddled with /lib/modules.. or any other scripts or files to my knowledge. Does anyone have any thoughts or solutions?
