I went to my server today an noticed that one of my drivers in my raid array had gone bad, using raid level 1 for mirroring. I took down server put in replacement driver an brought it back up an then rebuilt the array. all seem to be fine. then i powered down to replace cover. rebooted the machine an it did not see any boot drivers, turned it off an checked cables an on reboot it saw the drivers an booted into linux. then i noticed that lpd an sshd an couple other things were not working/ did not load. I got to looking an notices that the /etc directory was gone/ empty. Anyone know what could have caused this. I'm going to reloa linux on that server but not before I get another temp machine up an running with samba so I can get my users back to work for tomorrow. I'm not sure what could have caused this to happen an where to look. I'm wondering if the other hard drive could be bad or maybe the raid controller. Its just wierd that the /etc dir is empty. not sure if anything else is missing or not. This machine si running suse 8.0 or 8.1 so I will load suse 9.0 on it an see what happens. thanks for any info someone might point me to on what might have happened here. jack malone Network Administrator EAST TEXAS LIGHTHOUSE FOR THE BLIND dba HORIZON INDUSTRIES 903-595-3444 http://www.horizonind.com
