Hi All,
I'm just about to test the latest autofs (4.1.1) and hence need to recompile the kernel to apply a patch...
I'm running k_deflt-2.4.20-105, but the source claims to be kernel-source-2.4.20.SuSE-104. Is this right?
Also, I'd prefer (for obvious reasons) to test the new kernel but keep the current one. Obviously I can rename the new kernel image before copying it to /boot, and set up a new grub entry. But how can I go about having two copies of autofs4.o and two sets of support programs?
Not sure what support programs you're talking about,
The automount daemon, which is compiled separately, and the rcautofs script.
but if in the kernel source directory you edit the Makefile and set EXTRAVERSION to something, say
EXTRAVERSION=-dylan
for example, then the kernel will be called vmlinuz-2.4.20-dylan, the modules will be placed in /lib/modules/2.4.20-dylan and so forth, so you can keep them separate from the default suse modules
Well, I knew it had to be easy when I knew how! Thanks Dylan -- "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Benjamin Franklin
