I am on a dial-up connection to my ISP and frequently when I dial I get kppp coming back and reporting an error 16.
Looking at the pppd man page I see the following:
... 16 The link was terminated by the modem hanging up. ...
The question is whose modem is hanging up and why? If it is mine what and where can I increase whatever value/s so that this doesn't happen? If it is the ISP's modem how can I give them something textual to work from, copy the kppp error log window?

I had to go the the *.inf file for my modem(s) and pull out the init string specified there. It differed a bit from what I was using.
If this doesn't cure the problem... Have you tried wvdial? I had problems w/ both kppp & kinternet (including the problem you mentioned) and wvdial seemed to get by it. There is a conf file in which you can put all info and it connects really well. - -- ...CH Avoid doing business with 'The Link' ISP.
