Edit /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc, find the line with AllowRootLogin and set it to true and restart kdm with "rcxdm restart" But Fergus is right, it really is a very bad idea to run a full login as root. Better to run as a regular user, and just go to root for the few things that require it
