hi there, i got suse 9 installed fine on my laptop, (dual boot system.) however, when i run Yast Online Update I get the following error...
"error Unable to get './i386/update/9.0/patches/directory.3' or to read the directory (socket error: 111)."
has anyone seen this before or know how to fix it?
The "socket error: 111" is saying the server is too buzy, there is no socket available for a download connection.
So try again, or try another server, or at a different time. Remember about time zones.
That makes sense. I changed the server and it worked fine.
Maria, glad you got it to work. Sometimes YOU can get "cranky' especially right after a new install, particuarily if there are a lot of patches to download. I use YOU, but I also use: fou4s - Fast OnlineUpdate for SuSE SuSE put fou4s on the 8.0 CD, I don't know if they still do, but you can find it at: http://fou4s.gaugusch.at/index.shtml The advantage is you can do it in interactive mode, which is what I do: "fou4s -i --interactive" (that is the fourth step, the other three are in the html) Another good resource is Togan's " SuSE Linux Unoffical FAQ" http://susefaq.sourceforge.net/ Hope this helps, -- __________________________________________________________________ New!
