Running Suse 8.2. Just downloaded Apache 1.3. It runs fine from the command line when invoked manually but refuses to start from xinetd. I've tried it from the localhost and also from another machine, neither works. Here is the entry in xinetd.conf:
#Apache http server service http { socket_type = stream protocol = tcp wait = no user = root server = /usr/sbin/httpd }
Here are the entries in /etc/services:

And finally, the entries from /var/log/xinetd.log:

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

We talkin' RPM's here? You got anything in the /var/log/warn, /var/log/message, or whereever apache want's to put the log? Who owns the apache executables? Who are they trying to run as?

Apparently my last email didn't go to the list. My Bad. I decided to set it up to start at boot instead and it runs fine that way. But thanks for the response. -- Allen Seelye alleninmt@yahoo.com Linux user since 1999 WWJWD What Would John Wayne Do?
