Hi there,
I was (until last week) a happy user of SLES8 running on Compaq/HJP ML350, which is Dual PIV Xeon. Hyperthreading is enabled and with older kernels (<2.4.21) I was able to see 4 CPUs. Last week I rather unwisely decided to apply SP3 which includes kernel 2.4.21. Since than I can't see 4 CPUs. Only two.
<snip> Robert, We had a problem with a Compaq server and SuSE not "seeing" all of the CPUs with the SMP kernel. The solution (this server was a 6400r) was to SmartStart the box and make sure to choose "SCO UNIX 7.x" as the Operating System in the BIOS. Different BIOS/architecture, but Compaq is pretty consistent on these things, and I do recall from deploying a 350 two years ago that choosing an OS was part of the Smart Start process. Typically I only Smart Start a box on initial install, so I'd be prepared with a complete backup, in case you need to do a restore after changing the OS value. In any event, I do know that you can run Smart Start and see the current OS value without committing any changes to the BIOS. I hope this helpful...
