HI all. I just installed SuSE 9.0 via ftp. I have installed apache and php and now I would like to get mysql running. I installed mysql and mysql client via YAST but I can't seem to start it. I type mysql start at the command line and get the following error. Any ideas? Regards from Denmark. Dan

try "rcmysql start"

Not sure if this is done in 9.0, but you can copy a my.cnf file from /usr/share/doc/packages/mysql/cnf/ to /etc/my.cnf In the file you explicitly set the socket path and ports [client] port = 3306 socket = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock [mysqld] port = 3306 socket = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock I think you also need to run the /usr/bin/mysql_install_db util before you can use the server.
