Finally upgraded my PC today (was a P2 400). Along with the new PC came an nVidia Geforce4 MX440 video card. I've looked at the posts on the list and they're a little confusing as to the best approach to take. I'll be reinstalling SUSE 9 on the machine with the standard kernel, and the machine has a P4 processor.
Should I install from the nVidia site or use the open source version? In either case, which driver specifically? I probably won't be gaming that much, but maybe later I will, so I don't know how important 3D is going to be.
Accept the default when installing SuSE, then go to www.nvidia.com to install the latest upgrades, which worked for me for this card. One thing to note, to install the drivers once you download them from nvidia, you need to log in as root and stop X: i.e. ~ su # init 3 ...
