I noticed that suse 8.1 installs some RPMS for SASL V1 and SASL V2. Now I built and installed from source SASL2 without removing the RPM packages first. Is this a problem?
Yes, wait for the next online_update. Then your files maybe overwritten.
I can imagine trying to remove the packages first would end up causing many dependency issues...
So what is the correct way to handle this situation? I like installing stuff from source - as I get to determine how it's configured, but what to do on a system that has things installed via RPM?
Build a rpm which is newer then the installed? Or exclude the installed rpm from online_update. -- Andreas
