If you really want to know their DNS then go to a registration outfit like
register.com and look up your provider by name, i.e., earthlink.net,
comcast.net, comcast.com with their search function, then click on the View
Whois for the ones you find and you will get all the DNS you can stand.

It's no deep dark secret, probably some drone feeling a little bit of power or
more likely showing his stupidity.

I once got the same runaround from some flunky at roadrunner. I have a bottle
of eyeglass cleaner that is smarter than most of them!
