I have no idea who actually mfgs this adapter but I suspect that it is not Radio Shack. Perhaps you could give me a little more info (like the model# of yours, web site, etc.)...?
Thanks for your post! At least it gives me a little hope. <G>
tail -f /var/log/messages as you plut it in. It will show what the system thinks it is, then you can search google for driver.
Turns out I was in error when I said it was reported as an unknown device. Fact is, the adapter was recognized and a module loaded for it. I guess it was the modem(?) that was not being recognized, or something. The log entry follows: Jan 24 18:06:10 HP-YOGI kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:0b.1-2, assigned address 3 Jan 24 18:06:10 HP-YOGI kernel: usbserial.c: PL-2303 converter detected Jan 24 18:06:10 HP-YOGI kernel: usbserial.c: PL-2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0 (or usb/tts/0 for devfs) So... now the question is how to get an unlisted device to work. I mean, in the modem setup there is a drop-down list, and none of the items are as described above --specifically, tty/USB0. Could you point me in the right direction, please? This is a first, for me. I've never had this much problem getting online, before! :-\ <LOL> Thanks! ...CH
