When I try to download again by clicking on gaim-0.75-100.SuSE.ulb.1.i586.rpm it displays (audio/x - pn - realaudio-plugin Object) at the top of the Mozilla 1.4 window.
Then it crashes Mozilla.
I am going to clear History and Cookies and reboot to see if something weird is stuck in a buffer somewhere.
Any idea why it is doing this?
Yes, rpm is a suffix also used by real player, and mozilla tries to treat it as such, which obviously fails very badly. What you need to do is to right-click on the link and choose "save link as"
