Then your installation broke or you did not use a SuSE 9.0 rpm or installed from .gz w/o removing the prior install. What makes you thing your install 'went fine' and what did you install?
I did install the SuSE 9 RPM.
I did use YaST.
I have noticed that sometimes when you use yast to install a "third party" rpm, it will ignore your choice and just install the "official" version from the CD/ftp site/whatever instead. just run "rpm -Uvh gaim.rpm" (or whatever the filename is) as root on the command line instead.
