I know this is going to open a can of worms, but what the heck.

I bought an HP DC3000 the other day, and after spending 3 days getting
it to work, I'm giving up. I tried to get it to work with my laptop, but
after reading the reviews, I was going to have to do a lot of tweaking
to get it to function. So, I'm taking it back and going to get a video
capture card. 

My goal is to take all my video cam tapes and convert them to DVD. From
there I'm going to try to make a custom movie with MainActor (nice
program). 

I'm thinking of an ATI card, but not sure which one I need. I want to
keep it under $150 because I need to buy a DVD player too....thinking of
the Sony internal. I see the 9600 and 9600se look the same but are
priced differently. ????

So, bring it on! What should I buy?
