I've used both Linux Media Labs LML33 (pricy but nice) and Pinnacle
DC10+ (out of production but available on, say, ebay) card for capture
to either avi or qt files with lavrec. Encoding to mpeg is the tricky
part, and I've never been able to get that quite right, at least with
Linux. Lots of help, examples, in the man pages, and at www.dvdrhelp.com
(even somewhat Linux friendly). Also check the list archives for subject
"Video Capture", and the mjpeg-user list from sourceforge.

Rich

(glad to finally return the favor .....)
