I had a similar problem with SuSE 8.2 too. I didn't have time to find what was wrong so I just rebooted the machine and the printing stopped. Apparently, there is a bug in CUPS in SuSE 8.2.
Ah, that would kill the "/usr/lib/cups/backend/parallel" task that was running. Yes, it shold work, provided you first removed the job from cups with lprm.

IMHO to CUPS developers. There is a trouble report form available in the support section of http://www.cups.org.
I'll research more first. It could be that this was known and resolved, the version in 8.2 must be old to them. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
