Try /dev/scd0 for the drive if it is using SCSI emulation. And then also check the sym links /dev/cdrecorder and /dev/cdrom to see what they are set to. It may also be that the module was not loaded to support the SCSI devices. So you should check to see if the module loaded. I think the module is called "sg" if I recall correctly.
