Yes, unless you want to buy a commercial X server or hammer on Matrox and/or icculus.org to deal with it.
The new Unreal has the same restriction, BTW.
I downloaded a Matrox Linux driver from there website. Is this not what I need? http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/files/lnx_30.cfm
That driver doesn't have the S3TC extension. You can get an X server that does from XiG: http://www.xig.com/ It's supposedly much faster than XFree86 on Matrox cards. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/5zat+FOexA3koIgRAqK9AJ4+hH+NFAxJESor+l5ZOvSsR/3ahACeN5/T Hgcdtyvac0wESmH0SLOvsFY= =5GDJ -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
