fetchmail and postfix under SuSE-9.0

      Where is fetchmail supposed to put emails from the email server?
Of course, I expected that the place should be
/var/spool/mail/.

But fetchmail in SuSE-9.0 behaves differently `at least in the presence
of postfix'.
Mails arrived at /var/spool/postfix/*/

Is it normal?

Now, I wish to shut-down postfix. I do not think I need postfix.
Am I right?

I am very much confused with general email handling of SuSE-9.0.

Please help. I really need to restore emails from /var/spool/postfix/*/ to
/var/spool/mail/.
How can I achieve this task without losing emails.

PS: I once again got burnt seriously by an undocument change of SuSE-9.0.
Last time, I got burnt by IMAP change of SuSE-8.1.
Naturally I am very much upset by these undocumented changes.
