Im very new to Suse, and am having a little problem understanding whats happening with Java.
Open Office keeps complaining about JRE being missing. I tried to install eclipse and it JRE/JDK, but it couldn't find and install it. How do I go about installing a JDK under Suse ? I usually just download the .tar.gz and copy it to /usr/share/jdk1.4/ etc... But I am trying to do it the proper way this time....
Mof.
I had the same problem with Eclipse. I had used the tarball version of Eclipse from eclipse.org and it found everything properly with 8.2. I installed the RPM with my 9.0 install and it didn't work, nor would it find the JRE. I went back to the tarball version and it is working fine. I didn't have time to troubleshoot the issue with the RPM.
take the newest JRE (1.4.2) from
http://java.sun.com/j2se
rm /usr/lib/java
rm /usr/bin/java
rm /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/libjvaplugin_oji.so
chmod +x j2re-1.4.2-linux-i586.bin
./j2re-1.4.2-linux-i586.bin
mv j2re-1.4.2_02 /usr/lib
ln -s /usr/lib/j2re1.4.2_02/ /usr/lib/java
ln -s /usr/lib/j2re1.4.2_02/bin/java /usr/bin/java
ln -s /usr/lib/j2re1.4.2_02/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so
/opt/mozilla/lib/plugins/libjvaplugin_oji.so
install Eclipse
