how to determine true IP number of my host ???
If you have an eth0 device, most do. You can always do a ifconfig eth0 to see the status of that device.... ---<text snipped>---
Örn, Thank you for answering my question. I did a "ifconfig eth0" and as I expected it told me: inet addr:192.168.1.145, which is what I expected. In my case my System Admin helped set up our local net, so I didn't know how to determine the true IP number of my host. With your hint, I also did a "locate eth0" which gave me: /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0 and that file likewise showed: IPADDR='192.168.1.145' Friendly greetings, Gar -- "The IETF motto is 'rough consensus and running code'" -- Scott Bradner (Open Sources, 1999 O'Reilly and Associates) -- __________________________________________________________________ McAfee VirusScan Online from the Netscape Network.
