Running SuSE 8.2 and until recently I've not noticed the following two processes being run by postfix:

qmgr is a Postfix queue manager (according to man qmgr)
AFAIK I do not need postfix since all by mail is popped via Netscape from by ISP.
Not your system mail. You still need postfix for all the locally generated mail (error messages, update messages, security messages, cron messages, etc.)
Which config files control starting this program?
Yast, system, runlevel editor, or to stop it (bad idea) insserv -r postfix, but that may break something else that requires postfix to be running.
Is it possible that when I executed "evolution" (never really used it) something was changed on my system?
Probably not. You probably enabled or installed some program that required postfix to be running for it to run effectively.
I don't like processes running if I do not need them.
You may not need this one to pick up mail from the internet, but you probably still want this one for proper operation of your system. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM.
