Not trivially - jpeg is a format for single images, mpeg is for movies. You can (I think) use MainActor to make mpeg movies from jpegs - you would have to set how long each image is shown on each trach. It's provided on the SuSE 8.2 media. There are probably other ways also.

I just noticed your answer. Thanks for the advice. I have been researching this subject for days. There are ways indeed but many are complicated to me. I have noticed that Main Actor may help out alot afterall. I cannot find much documentation about it so far but if someone would know how to create mpeg stills in this program I would love to know how you did it.
Thanks,
Marcia

Marcia, This subject just recently became an interest to me as well. Not for the same reason you are wanting, but certainly for making the vcd or svcd. There is a nice article in the latest issue of Linux Journal on authoring DVD's, etc., which mention some nice programs to use for not only a dvd, but vcd as well. I don't believe LJ has the article on it's site, but the magazine should be available at any good book store.
I have gotten the programs, they are on Packman's site, but have not tried them yet. The better one seems to be DVD::rip and is listed on Packman's site as Video-DVDRip. It uses transcode and it's many features to help you build a nice vcd/svcd presentation. Transcode is quite versatile with many features, but difficult to use because it doesn't have a gui interface. DVD::rip provides that for you and a way to get to it's many features.

Dear Patrick, I am glad that there is some growing interest here on this subject. I will look forward to finding this article. Thanks for telling me about it. Something tells me that this movie making, vcd's, svcd, dvd's,music making, etc, are going to expand in Linux. I will have to try this DVD:rip. I just got a Liteon DVD rom Drive for Xmas from my husband and may install either today or tomorrow. I will finally be able to view a dvd movie on my computer. I hope to record some favorites that we own to vcd to play on my laptop so that I do not have to buy the very expensive dvd drive for it. Plus home movies on vcd can be played on most dvd players as well as computers without dvd drives. At least that is my understanding. I noticed transcode but yes it looks a bit difficult since it does not have the gui. Thanks for telling me about th Video-DVDRip. I will try it after I install my new dvd drive. Thanks alot for the info. Marcia
