xntpd sync very slow on some system

SuSE 8.2 Pro
Compaq DL360 G3 and Compaq sff desktops
okay I have started xntpd on 6 systems 2 synced in in a matter of hours
the others are well after two weeks are about the same amount of time
off (the other four were installed from the RPMs after I used scp to
locate them to the machines YAST not involved but the machines that
synced in quick used YAST to install xntpd)
I have confirmed that xntpd is started and reportsitself as running
normally and am using 2 level one times servers (same configuration file
on all six machines)
Does YAST installation of xntpd do some extra configuration not done via
the RPMs? or any other ideas???
