I called Siemens this morning and an attendant told me that although siemens doesn't provide a software to support a50 (maybe next version of SoftDataLink will - "they are working to this") it can exchange data (not by now). Perhaps that´s why nothing is said about a50 exchanging data to PC. They didn't want to create expectative. Ralf tell us it is possible: http://ralf-eisenreich.de/linux___si.89.0.html Some forums agree (see Club-Siemens Forum: http://www.club-siemens.net/forum/viewthread.php?tid=23636 (this one suggest to use the program vissie with a50) http://www.club-siemens.net/forum/viewthread.php?tid=23072 (this guy is using a50 with an USB cable) http://www.club-siemens.net/forum/viewthread.php?tid=23076 (upgrading form a50 to c45) So, it is possible. Just Siemens is avoid to talk before launch a better SoftDataLink. As the authors´ e-mail is hidden , I can't contact them to know wich cable they are using. Any more ideas? a. Stefan Parvu escreveu:
hi,
Please notice my tests were done with M55.
You are using A50. Under Siemens's site there is no mention of any serial/usb cables for it. Strange !
As well I can't see any download options for A50 even for Windows. Maybe the A series don't sync with any computer !?
Have a look: http://www.my-siemens.com/MySiemens/CDA/Index/1,1652,HQ_en_0_product%253AMW% 252FDANDA,00.html
There is no mention of any A model for software download, most likely they have no cables available !

Hello Ivan, thanks for replying. At http://www.my-siemens.com/MySiemens/CDA/Index/1,1652,HQ_en_0_product%253AMW %252FACCMW%252FDS,00.html ...it is said that some serial cables (DSC500, DCA-510, DCA-500, etc.) will work with some specific models of cell phone (C45, M50, ME45, etc.). As A50 is not listed in any of these products I don't know wich serial cable could be affordable/adequate to me. Has someone experienced using some of these cabels with A50? a.

As I understood you could use serial and USB cables. Serial is proved to work as Stefan Parvu reported. USB cable need to load a furter module that provide USB2Serial functionality.
It is part of SuSE 8.1 kernel (and I think later too), but if you want to compile your own kernel it is here USB support -> USB Serial Converter Support -> USB Prolific 2303 Then modprobe pl2303 I still have to test if it really works... I will ASAP.
Anyway I'm planning to write to Siemens at http://www.my-siemens.com/MySiemens/CDA/Index/1,1652,HQ_en_0_menu%253A1704 ,00.html (thx Stefan) to ask more support to Linux (firmware upgrades are available just to Windows) and better collaboration with SuSE (that comes with scmxx).
