I had a similar problem on a machine I'd done an update to 8.2 on. You might find it helpful to read the file /etc/sysconfig/onlineupdate. I solved my problem by setting YAST2_LOADFTPSERVER="no" in that file, though I think you'll want to do something else. Also, have a look at /var/lib/YaST2/you/youservers or possibly /etc/youservers. Are the permissions on the first correct. It should be readable by anyone and writable by root. On the box that has YAST2_LOADFTPSERVER="no", there is no file /var/lib/YaST2/you/youservers: I've set the online update always to run from ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse, which is much faster on my network than any of the usual YOU servers, though only gets updated about once a day. Probably you can choose a better local mirror. -- JDL Non enim propter gloriam, diuicias aut honores pugnamus set propter libertatem solummodo quam Nemo bonus nisi simul cum vita amittit.
