Newer versions of cdrecord query the disk (someway) and determin the
writing/burn speed fom the disk.
Some disks have a minimum writing speed (esp. CD-RW media).
It's been ages since I tried writing at 1xspeed, but I have seen cases
where CD-RW will not burn on my 4speed burner (simply because the media
wants at least 8 speed).
Kind regards,
