Hello all,
I haven't had a chance to upgrade in the past week or so. This morning I tried to run gaim and it would not load. So I tried to upgrade. When I typed 'apt-get upgrade' I got the following. Please tell me how to fix this so I can finish the upgrade.
Even with the long error message we may need some more info ... < snipped kde packages and other packages>
The following packages will be upgraded gaim gtkhtml3.0-devel libgsf libsoup-devel
72 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 removed and 1 not upgraded.
file /opt/gnome2/lib/libgsf-gnome-1.so.1 from install of libgsf-1.8.2-SuSE.ulb.1 conflicts with file from package libgsf-gnome-1.8.1-18 E: Sub-process /bin/rpm returned an error code (144)
First, I'd use synaptic to update kde. Choose all the kde 3.1.4 packages and upgrade those. Second, is the libgsf-gnome-1.8.1-18 a ulb package? or is it coming from base(or somewhere besides usr-local-bin)? Use synaptic to download just that and see where it comes from. You can choose download only so it won't install or error out. There is an apt-get command but I don't know it. A problem with running apt-get upgrade is that it upgrades everything even replacing ulb packages with gnome packages, which is what I think is happening here. You'd be better off being more selective when you are upgrading. You had a problem with gaim, so instead of upgrading everything just upgrade that to begin with. It looks like your trying to install libgsf-gnome-1.8.1-18 to replace the one from libgsf-1.8.2-SuSE.ulb.1. Or I may have it backward, not enough caffeine yet, open kpackage and search for libgsf.. If you have the 1.8.1-18 installed try to upgrade to the 1.8.2-SuSE-ulb package using kpackage. As to your original gaim problem there are instructions on the www.usr-local-bin.org site. It has something to do with adding mozilla to ldconfig, either check the site or the archives. HTH -- Franklin Maurer Using SuSE 8.2 Pro
