1. The 9.0 release comes with a "test" 2.6 kernel ----- as well as implementation of the User Mode Linux (UML) kernel patches------- so does that mean that the 2.6 kernel will have a k_deflt kernel and a k_uml kernel? Or does the UML patches only apply to the "standard" 2.4.21 kernel????
uml is part of the 2.6 kernel (it got merged quite a while ago). i imagine that they mean there is a rpm of the 2.4 kernel that includes the uml patches.
2. I have been checking prices of various 64 bit mobo's and processors; and a person would be insane not to go ahead and spring for it if they were in the market for a new one. IMHO. But, does the 64 bit version also come with the 2.6 kernel and/or UML patches????
depends on which 64-bit proc you are looking at. if you're looking at a base athlon64, then go ahead. if you're looking at a athlon64fx, you should wait til spring when they switch over to the new packaging (939-pin vs 940-pin) which will allow you to use unbuffered ram (the kind you can easily get). as for what the 64-bit version of suse comes with, it should be exactly the same as suse pro for x86, just compiled for the amd64. -- trey
