Hi guys, I am really having trouble getting the Nvidia drivers to work in Suse 8.2 with 3d enabled. I am using a MSI motherboard MS-6738 which does have an on board graphics card but its disabled when a graphics card is plugged into the Agp slot. There is no option in the bios to manually turn the on board gfx card off. I have a Geforce 2 mx400 plugged into the agp slot. I have tried ver 4349, 4363 and 4496 but they all do the same thing. When ever I try to start X after enabling 3d i get a black screen and cant see or do anything. I am able to telnet into my Suse 8.2 box and kill X. If I then run the switch2nv script i can then start X with no problems but as soon as I try switch2nvidia the same thing happens again. Black screen with no response except via telnet. While i was connected to the Suse8.2 box via telnet I grabbed this error message from /var/log/messages Sep 24 11:30:01 linux kernel: 0: nvidia: loading NVIDIA Linux x86 nvidia.o Kerne l Module 1.0-4349 Thu Mar 27 19:00:02 PST 2003 Sep 24 11:30:01 linux insmod: Warning: loading /lib/modules/2.4.20-4GB-athlon/ke rnel/drivers/video/nvidia.o will taint the kernel: non-GPL license - NVIDIA Sep 24 11:30:01 linux insmod: See http://www.tux.org/lkml/#export-tainted for information about tainted modules Sep 24 11:30:01 linux insmod: Module nvidia loaded, with warnings Sep 24 11:30:03 linux kernel: Linux agpgart interface v0.99 (c) Jeff Hartmann Sep 24 11:30:03 linux kernel: agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory : 321M Sep 24 11:30:03 linux kernel: agpgart: Trying generic Via routines for device id : 3116 Sep 24 11:30:03 linux kernel: agpgart: AGP aperture is 128M @ 0xd0000000 The second last line has me intrigued. Would that be the drivers trying to drive the onboard gfx card by mistake? or am I barking up the wrong tree here :) Btw the same hardware with Suse 8.0 and Nvidia drivers 3123 work fine with 3d enabled. Any ideas anyone? Cheers , Glenn
