I've been using f-prot as well and it works very well from the command-line.
There is a provided perl script for doing the updates, that I simply
scheduled with cron and I also scheduled a complete scan to run during the
night. They have commercial software that handle the other functions such as
scanning email, or Samba servers.

I liked it so well, that I purchased it for the windows machines here at home.
Their price is reasonable for the purchased stuff and the fact that they
support Linux just made the decision so easy.
