Er... in this case, as the machine was left alone for a long time,
it could be a screen saver that crashed badly. Or something related to
sleeping.

If it does it again, instead of init 6, enter "top" as root, or have a
look at "ps afx|less", and start killing tasks, one by one. Perhaps you
could find the culprit.
